Pointillisme fotografie / Pointillism photography

Halverwege het derde jaar krijgen wij in het tweede semester op school, de vrijheid om uit vier opdrachten één opdracht te kiezen. Een opdracht wat binnen die keuzemogelijkheden valt is Pointillisme, een schildertechniek uit de negentiende eeuw waarbij kleine stippen van pure kleuren geplaatst worden op het schildersdoek. Door verbanden te leggen met de kleuren wisten de schilders op een bijzondere manier het licht te benadrukken en weer te geven op het doek waardoor de stippen de illusie geven dat ze licht uitstralen.

Het fijne aan deze opdracht is wel, dat wij zelf mogen bepalen hoe wij dit pointillistische effect in een foto na willen bootsen óf zelfs een creatieve variant mogen maken. Daarom leek het mij bijzonder leuk om voor deze opdracht te kiezen en lekker los te gaan.

Voor mijzelf had ik wel enkele doelen gesteld. Het moest een vrolijke foto worden met tulpen en ik wilde onderzoeken of ik met behulp van verschillende natuurlijke lichtbronnen niet alleen het licht kon accentueren in de foto, maar vooral ook kon behouden in het eindresultaat.

Ik ben blij met de uitkomst….

Pointillism photography

Halfway through the third year, in the second semester at school, we are given the freedom to choose one assignment from four. One assignment that falls within those options is Pointillism, a painting technique from the nineteenth century in which small dots of pure colours are placed on the canvas. By making connections with the colours, the painters knew how to emphasise the light in a special way and to reflect it on the canvas, giving the dots the illusion that they radiate light.

The nice thing about this assignment is that we can decide for ourselves how we want to imitate this pointillist effect in a photo or even make a creative variant. That is why I thought it would be especially fun to choose this assignment and to go wild.

I had set a few goals for myself. It had to be a cheerful photo with tulips and I wanted to investigate whether I could not only accentuate the light in the photo with the help of different natural light sources, but especially whether I could retain it in the end result.

I am happy with the outcome….
